Introduction to Manual Bat Call Identification for the Northeastern U.S (Intermediate)
10 am EST | 3 pm GMT | 15:00 UTC
Learn how to manually review (vet) batch-processed bat call recordings using Kaleidoscope Pro software to confirm species identifications. This class will focus on selecting well-formed search-phase calls for manual species identification and on extracting measurements of characteristic frequency, characteristic slope, and others from a search-phase sequence, so you can confirm or refute Kaleidoscope's autoclassifications. We will review up to nine bat species (time permitting) encountered in the Northeast U.S., potentially including listed species. We will start with a processed batch of calls, so this class will not cover batch processing in Kaleidoscope Pro (that's another workshop!). Instead, we will review the use of the Kaleidoscope viewer to start, and will then jump into call ID. You don't need Kaleidoscope Pro to follow along and watch, but you should be ready to take notes.
