Introduction to Kaleidoscope for Bat Sound Analysis (Beginner)

Though designed for beginners, even power users will pick up new tips for bat sound analysis! Examine bat audio files using Kaleidoscope's Control Panel and Viewer functions. We'll perform a simple batch process to vet calls and add manual IDs. This class provides a foundation for higher-level courses on Bat Auto-ID and cluster analysis. We'll use the FREE download of Kaleidoscope Lite and provide sample recordings for you to play along in class.

Paul Howden-Leach

Paul has worked as a professional ecologist for over 25 years and has extensive experience conducting surveys for protected species, including bats, amphibians, reptiles, terrestrial mammals, and birds. He specializes in bats and bird bioacoustics and identification through sound and sonogram analysis. Paul is a qualified teacher and has taught at numerous further and higher education institutions worldwide, ranging from formal lecture settings to in-field active sound recording training. Additionally, he occasionally serves as a consultant and advisor to the BBC and other television production companies.
