Intro to Kaleidoscope for Birds & Land Animals (Beginner)

We'll cover the basics of working with bird and land animal recordings in Kaleidoscope Lite. Learn to use the Control Panel & Viewer windows, and play with and understand sonograms. Once you have completed this course, you will have the foundation for higher-level courses about cluster analysis, building classifiers, and acoustic index analysis. A Kaleidoscope Pro trial license and sample recordings will be provided for attendees to play along in class.

Paul Howden-Leach

Paul has worked as a professional ecologist for over 25 years and has extensive experience conducting surveys for protected species, including bats, amphibians, reptiles, terrestrial mammals, and birds. He specializes in bats and bird bioacoustics and identification through sound and sonogram analysis. Paul is a qualified teacher and has taught at numerous further and higher education institutions worldwide, ranging from formal lecture settings to in-field active sound recording training. Additionally, he occasionally serves as a consultant and advisor to the BBC and other television production companies.
